Course contents : Biology of the gastrointestinal tract and nutrition brings to 3rd year students in Biomedical Sciences some introductive information regarding the orientation entitled Biology of the gastrointestinal tract and nutrition available in 2nd master.
Course objective : Main aims of the teaching are, from one hand, to give a global and integrated view of the gastrointestinal tract. This view is based on the basic teaching from 2nd bacchelor. On the other hand, the teaching gives methodology information concerning the study of this system.
The teaching concerns all organs of the GIT. Some lessons give modern information regarding experimental models used for GIT studies. Intestinal immunity is introduced without limitation to specific immunity and underlining the existing relations between the immunity and the digestive function.
Several gastrointestinal peptides are presented from their synthesis to their known effects. The bacterial flora is considered in the teaching and the methods used for their characterization are described. The teaching describes the development of the GIT (prenatal, postnatal, senescence). Basic information regarding nutrition are included in the teaching.
