Psychosocial Aspects of Ageing

Course contents : The course considers various problems related or associated to normal ageing.
A first part relates to the origins and the characteristics of demographic ageing, the psychometric model of the cognitive decline, the social models, current conceptions about the evolution of the personality and the emotions.
The second part relates to the transitional periods occuring during old age: sexuality, retirement, health, disabilities and dependence, mouning, loneliness, rehousing in institution, death.
Finally, some ethical and deontologic problems are briefly discussed (euthanasia, informed consent).
Course objective : to have some theoritical and methodological knowledges in connection with the present knowledges about normal ageing.
Assessment : examen écrit (questions ouvertes et fermées) sur la matière du syllabus
