Course contents : History of the evolutionary theory in relation to social behaviour (Darwinian theory, socio-biology and socio-ecology). Mechanisms of sexual selection and social stuctures, altruism, nepotism, parental investment, kin recognition, infanticide....
Course objective : Discuss the question of social behaviour in the context of evolution. Proceed to the critical examination of recent developments. Bibliographical synthesis and oral presentations
Prerequisites : General ethology
Organization : Theoretical lectures and seminars based on bibliographical syntheses
Written notes : Reading file of selected chapters and articles
Assessment : Bibliographical synthesis (70 %), oral presentation and discussion ((30%)
