Course contents : 1) Study of the vocabulary & contents of multimedia files dealing with economic life in general or a more specific socio-economic topic. This study includes also:
- Miscellaneous listening comprehension exercises (VRT news, Canvas, programs from TV1).
- Vocabulary & exercises : translation.
2) Presentations & debates (organized with groups of 2 students each) on the cultural, social or political life in the Flanders & the Netherlands.
3) Speaking exercises (conversation in small groups).
4) Linguistic exchanges with the Flanders (Lessius Hogeschool Antwerp)
Course objective :
  • Development & improvement of the 4 language skills (reading, listening, writing, speaking) in order to reach a good mastery of everyday Dutch and Business Dutch.
Prerequisites : LANG 128 Dutch ( 1st year and 2nd year)
Good knowledge of the usual vocabulary and the grammatical rules
Organization : 2 hours a week during the whole year.

Reading comprehension exercises, speaking (presentations, debates, conversations ...) and writing exercises, listening comprehension exercises (using audio and videotapes in the language lab or the Lem).

Assessment : 1st session assessment : 2 written tests during the year (mid-December on the texts seen during the 1st sem) (mid-May for the texts seen during the 2nd sem). Each is worth 1/5th of the total mark.
NB: Students who are back from an Erasmus stay only take the May test which is worth 2/5th of the final mark. A listening comprehension test before Easter which is worth 1/5th of the total.
At the end of the year, oral examination (presentation of newspapers articles) for the reminder of the mark.
2nd session assessment : students take 3 tests : a listening comprehension test, a written exam(essay and translation) and an oral exam. The weighting of the marks is the following : 1/5th for the listening comprehension test, 2/5th for the written test, 2/5th for the oral exam.
