Course contents : This course is an initiation to telecommunication techniques :basic principles of telecommunications, nature of the signals to be transmitted, guided propagation (transmiossion line, fiberoptics), atmospheric propagation, aerials, modulation techn iques (analog and digital) telephone network, data transmission, tlecommunication services and systems, telecommunications and satellites, navigation system,k analysis of the voice data video integration issue and of telephone network integration. To describe tha available or developing telecommunication systems and services

Objectives for students :
to understand today's technologies
to acquire the basic knowledge necessary to understand future technologies
to understand the issue of voice-data-video integration
to be able to determine the technological needs and potentialities of their firm
to be able to choose and follow the installation of equipment in their organisation
Organization : Presentation with transparences and videos. Notes and p^resentations are partly in English. Possible visits (outside 15h) to the VRT, TECHNIFUTUR NTIC and the Technothèque of Liège

Assessment : 1st session assessment : oral exam or research project with 15-page report as it is impossible to cover the whole issue in 15h. This allows the students to go more in depth, in accordance with their individual interest
