Course contents : - Introduction :
Fundamental reasons for a need for change in production management, from Taylorism to Ohnism, or World Class Manufacturing.
- The 3 pillars of World Class Manufacturing.
- Just in Time : Just in Time principle & the 5 main lines of developments : committee organization, methodology, group technology, cultural change - results, towards modernization, a new view on investments; impact on planning systems. MRP - KANBAN; progress in organization (CAM - CAPM - CAD - CIM - flexible workshops); application of the concepts to services & distribution.
- Total quality : From quality control to total quality; the main currents of thought KAIZEN, JURAN, DEMING; the ISO 9000 certification.
- Staff management : new training needs; the new role of hierarchy; visual communication.
- The new role of Management Control : Activity Based Costing.
The role of R&D, supply chain management
Course objective : In the last two decades, the company world has experienced a fundamental change in the relation supply-demand, going from a shortage situation over to a surplus situation, and having to meet different demands from a staff that is more & more skilled & educated.
From this was born a new technico-socio-organizational management, often referred to as postindustrial.
The objective of the course is to show all the concepts of this new style of management, and its effects in company management.
Prerequisites : SC 827 Operations Management
