| Course contents :
| This course relates to traffic and transport modelling, simulation techniques, forecast and management of traffic and transport flows. The course is composed of lectures where the theoretical concepts and methods of transport and traffic modelling and simulation are exposed. | |
| | | |
| Course objective :
| The course aims at providing to the students with the basic and advanced techniques of traffic and transport modelling and simulation. The course begins with the introduction of basic notions relating to the constitution of transport networks and systems, transport/traffic operational schemes, transport services, logistics & supply chain and the challenges of transport systems and traffic analysis. Then, a close attention is paid to traffic theory & traffic engineering, the transport models (generation, distribution, modal split, assignment and combined models), the applications of the concept of user equilibrium, the discrete choices theory applied to transport, the forecasting techniques, the simulation and management of transport and traffic flows. Then, the basic notions related to the ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems), the activity-chains models, the supply chain optimisation models, the mathematical models for evaluation and decision-making are presented. Lastly, dynamic models for transport & traffic analysis and forecast, intermodal platformsÂ’ operations simulation models and models related to transport safety and security are introduced. | |
| | | |
| Prerequisites :
| Good knowledge/command of mathematics, statistics and data processing. | |
| | | |
| Organization :
| 18 hours lectures. Practical applications are shown as well. | |
| | | |
| Written notes :
| The course is very specific and it has its own sufficiently detailed notebook. For any student who wishes to deepen the subject, a library in the transport and traffic modelling field which is regularly updated is available at the Unit of Transport Systems. | |
| | | |
| Assessment :
| An oral examination is carried out in June. | |
