Course contents :

Collective action

1. Environment is a social construction that derives from knowledges, norms and social identities.

2. Political construction of environmental problems comes from interactive processes between economic, cultural and political factors.

3. Environment as collective action.

Coordination and regulation

Concepts of regulation and coordination are developed ans applied to environmental policies end environmental management.

Learning

To understand sustainable development as a learning process including social and technical innovation processes.
Course objective :

Collective action

1. To understand how environmental problems are historically built and how social systemes, economic constraints and cultural schemes contribute to define them.

2. To give students an analysis tool for environmental problems by using the concepts of framing and probllematisation.

3. To apply this grid to vatious environmental problems like conservation, waste and risks.

Environmental policy and environmental management are treated as problems of regulation and coordination

Learning

Tha concept of sustainable development is analysed starting from usual definitions of international institutions. Case studies are examined to show the various forms of social and technical change that referring to sustainability is inducing. Concept of innovation is analysed fromp case studies. political system is revisited from a learning perspective.
