Course objective : To analyse the balance of payments, interpret its imbalances, learn, understand and criticize the various adjustment mechanisms

To analyse the objectives of the European monetary policy and the various instruments of the monetary policy.
Prerequisites : ECO 426 Introduction to Economics

Organization : The course will first be composed of an advanced theoretical study. This will be followed by frequent reading of & analyzing annual reports, or research published by international organizations, as well as any other relevant material.
Those text readings will deal with recent events, debates or developments. They will be analyzed with the help of the theoretical framework presented beforehand, and connected with the problematics of international management.

To do so, group assignments will be organised in class. The classes will take the following form :
-first a theoretical presentation will be given by the professor
-then, a selection of articles will be analysed by teams of students. One group will be selected to present their analysis to the rest of the class
Finally, the debate will strat with remarks and questions from the students
Reading the selection of articles before each class is essential to understand the comment. The professor expects the student to know the information when making comments.

Assessment : 1st session assessment : the assessment will consist of 2 parts :
a continuous assessment during the semester
an oral examination in January on the theory and the articles analysed
The assessment will essentially focus on the student's ability to understand and analyse as well as comment and criticize The student will take an oral exam
