Current Issues in Economic Policy

Course contents : The course is taught in French.
It consists of two parts.
The first deals with European monetary integration (introduction to the European economic and monetary union, its organisation, its functioning, analysis of the single monetary policy, see the course on economic and monetary integration in Europe). The second focuses on recent economic developments in the world and in Belgium.
Course objective : Introduction to and discussion of major current issues in economic policy.
Prerequisites : A general course in political economy.
Workshops : Students will introduce an issue in economic policy in class and hand in an essay on the same issue.
Organization : Lectures by Prof. Quaden. Students are invited to actively participate.
Written notes : Main reference work for the first part BENASSY-QUERE (A) et COEURE (B) : Economie de l'Euro, Ed. La Découverte, Paris 2002, with various documents handed out in class added.
For the second part: Annual report of the National Bank of Belgium
Assessment : Written examination.
