Organization:
Presentation of a published paper:
Each student presents a paper published after 1996 in one of the following reference journals in Industrial Organization:
- International Journal of Industrial Organization ;
- Journal of Industrial Economics ;
- RAND Journal of Economics.
These journals are available at the Graulich library.
On the top of the paper itself, the student presents a survey of the literature on the issue that is central in the paper.
Intervention as a discussant:
Each presentation is followed by a detailed discussion by a discussant of the paper and of the relevant literature. Role of the discussant: To summarize the paper by replacing it within the relevant line of research; To stress the important aspects of the paper; To ask relevant questions to the presenter. Each student acts as a discussant for one paper.
General discussion:
The detailed comments by the discussant are followed by a general discussion involving all the students. Each student must read the paper in advance.
Timing:
Presentation: 35 minutes;
Intervention of the discussant: 10 minutes;
General discussion: 10 minutes.
Grading:
12 points: Presentation;
5 points: Intervention as a discussant;
3 points: Active participation to the general discussion.
Handout:
A handout including a 2-pages summary of the paper as well as a copy of the slides used for the presentation/of the power point presentation are given to I. Jelovac and to M. Hiligsmann before the presentation. | |
