DROI2206-1

European Economic Law

Duration :45h Th
Credits/ECTS :
2nd "licence" in law6
Holder(s) :Paul Demaret
Course contents : This course mainly covers the implementation of the four fundamental freedoms by the judge and the Community legislator, which represent the backbone of the "internal market": the free movement of goods; the free movement of persons, the freedom to provide services and the free movement of capital. However, we also quickly examined the relations between the European Community and the third countries, competition rules and State aids
Course objective : Teach the student to work and to reason in the field of substantive European law from the relevant sources of law (case law in particular).
Prerequisites : The course is meant for law students in “licence”. For Socrates students, it is necessary to have knowledge of institutional law of the European Communities.
Organization : The oral course takes place 2 hours per week, each Monday morning. The student is required to prepare the sittings of the oral course through a preliminary reading of the relevant part of the syllabus and of the documentation which is linked to it. In particular, the student is required to at least try to answer the questions in the syllabus. The oral course is therefore conceived for students who compel themselves with this preparatory work. The success of the examination is largely conditioned by the preparatory work during the whole academic year.
Written notes : A very detailed syllabus is provided. It is supplemented by an important documentation file (case law of the European Court of Justice, legislative texts, doctrines, bibliographies)
Written examination is "open book".
Examples of previous examinations are at the disposal of the students in the library. The student who would have failed can see their copy after the deliberation and may be informed of the reasons of their failure, but only on the dates provided for this purpose.
Assessment : Written Final Exam
