Course contents : This course is the continuation of the course of Introduction to Criminal Law and Criminology.

In this course an overview is given of the Belgian criminal law as it can be found in book I of the Code of Criminal Law.

Several themes are studied as : Constitutive elements of crime, reasons of justification and excuse, mitigating and aggravating circumstances, punishment.

The course also contains a short introduction to international humanitarian law.
Course objective : The purpose of this course is to make the students able to resolve a practical question of penal law.
Prerequisites : Introduction to criminal law and criminology; criminal procedure; penology.
Workshops : The study of cases will help the students to apply the course to practical situations.
Organization : personal study and exercices
Written notes : a summary of the course is available
Assessment : written examination
