Course contents : The course 'Insurance Law' offers an introduction to Belgian law concerning insurance policies. It aims at supplying students with:

-the basic elements of insurance procedures

-the legal principles governing, on one hand, the organisation of the guarantee promised by the insurer and, on the other hand, the background to and the effects of insurance policies

-an introduction to the legislative, regulatory and contractual frameworks used in Belgian law

This introduction makes constant reference to the most widespread insurance policies; life insurance, fire insurance, car insurance, accident insurance, etc
Course objective : The objectives of the course are to analyse real-life situations in order to understand juridical laws; identify and analyse the legal, regulatory and contractual laws governing the main subject; reflect critically on the principles of insurance law; analyse events in the evolution of interpreting laws
Prerequisites : Knowing the general theories of obligations is essential because they are applied in multiple ways in insurance law
Organization : Rehearsal / Practices :
No rehearsal / practice sessions are planned but they can be organised if students so desire
Written notes : The students will have a syllabus made available to them.

Assessment : The course is examined by an open book oral exam, beginning with the analysis of a legal decision. The students will be able to look at this 45 minutes before the exam.
