| Course contents :
| The course is designed to intriduce students both to the Belgian legal system and to the major legal rules they will have to take into account in their professional practice.
First part
The first part of the course is devoted tot he study of the four kinds of standards veterinary practitioners most often come across, namely:
- International standards,
- Laws and decrees,
- Royal orders and
- Agreements between private citizens.
Each standard is illustrated with cases of particular relevance to veterinary practitioners such as for instance international conventions on animals, European directives on the training and establishment of veterinary practitioners, laws related to the protection and the well-being of animals, laws about animal health, royal orders implementing them, the medical contract, labour agreements, VAT, etc.
Second part
The second part of the course deals with the implementation of legal sanctions. It includes:
- The presentation of the judiciary, with a particular development on the function of legal experts,
- The presentation of rules about civil responsibility, especially relating to animals and insurances for professional hazards,
- an introduction to animal sales and to redhibitory defects in such sales
- a short description of how a legal sanction is carried out.

| Course objective :
| The course in veterinary law aims at introducing future doctors in veterinary medicine to the legal conditions that regulate their profession. | |

| None. | |

| Organization :
| The course is taught during the first three weeks of the first ter mat times established by the Faculty's secretary. | |
|  | | |
| Written notes :
| A guidebook will be sold to students at the beginning of the course. | |
|  | | |
| Assessment :
| By the end of the course a list of possible examination questions will be sent by email, with a reference to what pages of the guidebook are relevant. The examination (which is a written test and takes place on the appointed days) will consist of three of these questions. | |
