CHIM0019-3

Macromolecular chemistry (including a day trip to a factory)

Duration :30h Th
Credits/ECTS :
2nd "licence" chemical sciences5
Holder(s) :Robert Jérôme
Course contents : The first part of the course is a detailed discussion of all the known mechanisms for the synthesis of macromolecules. The second part is devoted to the hydrodynamic properties and the bulk properties of polymers. The structure of the course is such that the general behaviour of polymers can be understood at the molecular level and justifies the large variety of their application fields.
Course objective : This course aims at being a unique synthesis of the main concepts of organic chemistry and physical chemistry taught to the students until then.
Prerequisites : Good knowledge of organic chemistry and basic knowledge of physical chemistry.
Organization : 15 courses of 2h each.
2 half-days of exercises. One on synthesis and the other one on solution and bulk properties.
A one-day visit of factory.
Written notes : Made available to the students for photocopy.
Assessment : Written exam (half a day) followed by an oral exam (half an hour).
