| Aperçu général : | This introductory course in English law is for those students who will be studying at English universities later in the academic year. Other students with an interest in the subject are also welcome to attend as the contact points between English Law and the Civil law are numerous and far-reaching. The course is given in seminar form. The following areas are considered : - Sources of law (common law reasoning and statutory interpretation), and the law-making process; - the machinery of justice in England : courts, tribunals and legal personnel; - the law of torts; - criminal law; - contract law; - English constitutional law (of particular interest with the reform of the House of Lords and the status of the Monarchy, devolution, reform of the Government of Northern Ireland, increased access to information, and the incorporation of the European Convention on Human Rights all under way or the subject of serious discussion and proposals); - The sometimes awkward relationship between the English Common Law and EC law. The seminars and all course materials are in English. | |||||

| Pré-requis : | Connaissances linguistiques suffisantes. Dans la mesure où le matériau de base du cours se sert de la jurisprudence anglaise, une bonne connaissance de l'anglais est recommandée. | |||||
