Course contents : The first part of the course is a general introduction to philosophy. Opinions of some great philosophers (more particularly Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Kant, Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche and Sartre) are summarised. The second part of the course includes first a general introduction to the philosophy of science (especially taken into consideration : empiricism, positivism, Popper’s and Kuhn’s epistemology), afterwards some reflections dealing specifically with the epistemologic status of human sciences.
Course objective : Provide the students with the rudiments of a "philosophical culture".
Give the students the basic elements allowing them to get an idea of the rich literature devoted to the question of nature, status and aims of science in general and human sciences in particular.

A detailed scheme of the course and a collection of texts are available for the students.
Assessment : Written exam in June
