MATH0224-1

Further Functional Analysis

Duration :30h Th, 10h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
1st "licence" in mathematical sciences6,5
Holder(s) :Jean Schmets
Course contents : The Whitney jets on a closed subset F of a euclidean space are the indexed families of the restrictions to F of the derivatives of the infinitely continuously differentiable functions on the euclidean space. Theit set E(F) may be endowed with a Fréchet space structure. These Whitney jets will be characterized. The problem of their extension by analytic or holomorphic functions will be treated by means of functional analysis methods.
The realization of this programme requires the study of the nuclear Fréchet spaces, having the (Omega) or the (DN) property, ... and on the splitting theorem. Different spaces of analytic or holomorphic functions will be studied.
Course objective : iitiation of the students to the use of functional analysis.
Prerequisites : MATH0220-1.
Workshops : These works are organized by the assistants. They deal with explanations about the theory and exercises.
Organization : The course is organized one year out of two, during the second semester. It will not be organized during the academic year 2004--2005.
Written notes : Notes are available at the beginning of the course. Numerous references are indicated.
Assessment : The examination is oral; it may contain a written part for exercises.
