| Course contents : | The course is meant as an introduction to the various aspects of nationality law. Although formally based on the study of the Code of Belgian Nationality, the course will in effect seek to understand nationality by looking at the issue in a broader context. The following themes will be addressed : (1) What is Nationality? (2) Nationality Law and International Law (3) Nationality and the European construction (4) Nationality and Immigration (5) Evolving role of nationality in private international law (6) Dual citizenships The instructor will make available a collection of materials (texts of international conventions and Belgian statutory materials, but also a collection of cases, both from Belgian and foreign courts). A detailed handout of each lecture will also be available. | |||||

| Organization : | The course will be taught in lecture style. Students will, however, be invited to prepare the lectures and read the cases assigned for the next lecture. Preparation is strongly recommended, especially if the students command of the French language is limited. | |||||
