Learning unit contents

The course is divided into 2 main parts.
Part 1: Research
Several journals highlight methodological weaknesses in health simulation research. The causes are numerous and not limiting: low number of subjects included, insufficient statistical power, great variability of the tests used for the evaluation, etc. The Cochrane review, published in 2009 (Gurusamy et al., 2009), containing randomized controlled studies on the effectiveness of surgical simulation methods, concluded that there was a need for greater methodological rigor in the work undertaken. Many questions remain to be investigated with regard to the pedagogical interest of health simulation as well as the pedagogical processes involved. In this framework, this part of the course aims to show students the evidence-based simulation, by reading and presenting some founding or recent articles in this field.

Part 2: Ethics
Readings, leading to an ethical reflection directly related to the difficulties encountered in the professional practice of the 'critical patient' purpose.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Part 1: Research This section aims to familiarize the student with evidence-based simulation data and to develop his / her critical thinking with regard to the literature in this field.
Part 2: Ethics At the end of this learning activity, you will be able to:
* Identify recurring ethical issues in your usual workplaces; * Consider the various angles of view that illuminate a complex situation; * To build and update your professional knowledge regarding these different angles of view.
