Learning unit contents

The course focuses on the practice of communication in public health; based on communication concepts and theoritical models, it presents the use of communication strategies to inform, raise awareness and influence individual and collective health choices

Content

  • Challenges of public health communication
  • Communication. Conceptual bases
  • Communication and behavior change
  • Communication strategies and methodological proposals
  • Particular contexts in public health communication: risk communication, crisis communication, acceptability communication
  • Communication tools
  • Evaluation in public health communication

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

After the completion of the course, the students should be able to:



  • master the basic concepts of communication and their incidence in the processes of communication in public health
  • identify issues of communication in various public health contexts
  • demonstrate understanding of ethical values central to publc health communication
  • apply methods and tools appropriate to different contexts and audiences
  • plan a public health  communication initiative
  • evaluate communication strategies and programs in public health

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

  • class teaching with power point support
  • 3 group works : 4 students groups (preferably to modify for each work); these works will be initiated during the courses and supervised during their realisation by email exchanges + videoconference; one work will concern the design of a communication approach in a specific context of public health (communication plan)
