Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The course is devoted to the quantum theory of the electromagnetic field.
Covered topics : - quantization of the electromagnetic field in interaction with charged particles - the free quantum field (Fock states, coherent states, squeezed states, Hong-Ou-Mandel effect, Hanbury Brown and Twiss interferometry, ...) - atom-field interaction (spontaneous emission, stimulated emission, scattering, Jaynes-Cummings model, ...) - topics of current interest in quantum optics

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

After completion of this course, the student will be able to understand the theory of quantum electrodynamics and some related phenomena.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Basic and advanced quantum physics (see PHYS3033-1 and PHYS3021-1)

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Thorough reading of scientific articles and books, and programming (see assessment methods)

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Blended learning

Recommended or required readings

A pdf version of the slides will be available on myULiege. Lecture notes (in french) are distributed at the beginning of the course.
