Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Learning outcomes are progressive and consistent from one course to another from MEGE 1 to MEGE 4 then MEGE 5 to 9).
The learning outcomes are detailed on each respective eCampus space

1st month of work placement

The objective of the internship is to allow the future Doctor who is moving towards specialization in General Medicine to strengthen the skills necessary for the exercise of his future profession. More specifically, it is about strengthening clinical, communication, scholarship and approach skills of EBM, adapted to the practice of MG. As the internship progresses, students complete the activities carried out on eCampus. At the end of the internship, a teacher from the Department informs the students of the internship validation: the latter requires a sufficient internship rating and the completion of all the requested activities. The MeGe 3 internship is to be carried out only in Belgium, with an internship supervisor trained in this internship modality (video intended for internship supervisors and students).

2nd month of work placement

The general objective of the two preparatory internships is to allow the future doctor to strengthen his skills in anticipation of an assistantship in General Medicine, within the framework of the Belgian health system. It is for this reason that these two internships must take place in Belgium. Internships abroad are possible in General Medicine, but only during the optional months. The completion and especially the validation of this MeGe 4 internship (which follows the MeGe 3 internship) constitute the conditions of access to the competition for General Medicine, which opens the door to the Specialized Master in General Medicine. The specific objective is to know the updated recommendations, but also to have an approach centered on the patient, which will make it possible to know the expectations and the priorities of this one, to allow him to become truly actor of his health and build a real partnership with him
The goals we aim for with students are: First, develop listening centered on the patient and the experience of his illness using a semi-guided interview guide; Second, to collect monitoring indicators, validated in clinical practice guidelines for a chronic pathology. Third, describe and analyze the results obtained in an approach to improving the quality of care in general medicine You are advised to schedule with your internship supervisor, at the start of the internship, the 3 to 4 half-days that will be necessary to carry out this evaluation activity for the management of a chronic patient.

3rd month of work placement

Educational objectives (targeted learning, skills and knowledge to be mastered by the end of the course) The objective of the internship is to allow the future Doctor who is moving towards specialization in General Medicine to strengthen the skills necessary for the exercise of his future profession. More specifically, it is about strengthening clinical, communication, scholarship and approach skills of EBM, adapted to the practice of MG. The internship is free. This means that after the MEGE3 and 4 internships, the student defines his internship objectives on the basis of his learning needs (self-assessment), in connection with the competency framework of the Master in medicine and the evaluation sheet of traineeship. The MeGe 3 internship is to be carried out only in Belgium, with an internship supervisor trained in this internship modality

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The learning activities and methods are adapted to each level of education.
They are progressive and consistent from one internship to another from MEGE 1 to MEGE 4 (then MEGE 5 to 9).
The learning activities and methods are detailed on each respective eCampus space

1st month of work placement

The precise activity instructions are described in the eCampus area and cover the following topics: 1) Independent consultations in general medicine 2) Prevention / Health promotion 3) Health literacy 4) collaborations between the different disciplines of aid and care 5) scientific watch 6) COVID-19 vaccination survey (between February and May 2021) 7) optional activity: participate in a course (ARC, workshop ...)

2nd month of work placement

Students must submit on eCampus, ULiège's electronic teaching support platform, all information relating to the activities carried out, in order to validate their internship.

1) Clinical competence is at the heart of the activity of the general practitioner. The internship is therefore mainly oriented towards clinical work and the development of student autonomy. Experiences of internship supervisors are proposed in the annexed document to allow the progressive autonomy of the student in consultations. To help with clinical work, various resources are available below: an appendix with the complete Calgary-Cambridge guide as well as other appendices containing more specific points of this guide. There is no need to go to eCampus for this activity. Resources are posted on ecampus.

2) The support of patients suffering from chronic pathologies constitutes an increasingly important part of the work of general practitioner and this for two main reasons: the aging of the population and the progress of medicine which keeps patients alive, but at the cost of sequelae or loss of functions. In supporting these patients, it is important for the general practitioner to know the updated recommendations, but also to have a patient-centered approach, which will make it possible to understand the expectations and priorities of the latter, of him. allow them to become a real player in their health and to build a real partnership with them. General medicine, to gain in efficiency and humanity, to strengthen its place in health services, must question itself and develop a process of evaluation and improvement of practices. This is an integral part of the work of the general practitioner and can be built from his daily tools such as the medical file and the meeting with the patient receiving his care. This is why we offer you, within the MeGe 4 internship, an assessment work which should take around ten hours (3 to 4 half-days), on the theme of a chronic pathology that we have chosen: diabete.

The complete internship is validated if: The MdS internship score is greater than 10/20

If activities are requested:
- the assignments posted on ecampus are validated (but not rated) by a validating general practitioner. Formative feedback is given to the student for each activity. If the student did not meet the expectations for an activity, the validator sends feedback and the student is expected to rework the activity until the objectives are reached.

Organizational remarks

The principles targeted by the Teaching General Practitioners of the Department of General Medicine at ULiège are as follows, for any student, in a Master or Specialized Master:
1. Students are considered partners. For example, students are regularly asked for their opinions on methods, tools, resources, learning and evaluation systems, etc. The Department takes these opinions into account by adapting courses, methods, etc., while respecting the learning objectives (skills and purposes).
2. The Department wishes to promote and increase exchanges... between students, between students and teachers, between students and their patients, between students and collaborators...
3. The Department is concerned to never lose sight of the fact that future medical students and medical teachers do a human job, that is to say a job of relating between people who respect each other. This means that ethical questions will often be approached, reflected on, discussed... with respect for all opinions.
