Reading and analysis of criminology-related academic texts.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The objective of this course is to help students expand their grammar and specialized vocabulary in order to enable them to understand a scientific text related to the field of criminology.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Although the course is intended for beginners, basic knowledge of English is essential.
A refresher course in grammar will be organised in the first semester. Students who score less than 8/20 on the exemption test are strongly encouraged to actively participate.
Students also have access to the Grammaire anglaise de Base Interactive (GABI) via eCampus. We encourage all students to work on it regularly as a supplement to the course.
Finally, beginners or those needing to strengthen their basic knowledge can attend additional language training. The ISLV offers a wide range of options. For more information, visit the portal at https://www.islv.uliege.be.

June (60%): written exam on an unseen text.
Continuous assessment (10%)*: oral presentation of a scientific article in groups.
* In accordance with Article 64 of the General Regulations for Studies and Examinations (RGEE), work carried out during the teaching periods (essays, oral presentations, group projects, etc.), and whose marks are included in the calculation of the final mark, is only organized once per academic year. For pedagogical and practical reasons-notably, continuous evaluation, specific supervision, group work, classroom interaction, and the practical organization of presentations-these assessments cannot be repeated in the second session. The grade obtained for this work is considered to be tied to each exam session and is therefore retained for the calculation of the final grade in both the first and second sessions.
