Learning unit contents

The course includes:

Speaking, writing and reading comprehension exercises to work intensively on various elements (pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, ability to summarize/paraphrase, etc.), listening comprehension, basics of academic writing. Revision of grammar items, listening comprehensions and vocabulary exercises.

Overall, the course will focus on oral and written communication with a revision of the English grammar.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

In agreement with the ILOs, the course aims at developing and strengthening the four language skills (oral and written expression, listening and reading comprehension). The objective is to give the students who do not have a sufficient level of English, the possibility to reach the B1 or possibly B2 level.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Students should have the A2 level at least.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course particularly insists on practising English.

It will mainly include:

Various units and exercises based on business-related topics (vocabulary, texts, listening and reading comprehensions, speaking). 

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Additional information:

The course is taught 4 hours a week (2x 2 hours) in class.

Students are required to prepare some exercises at home.

All the course notes will be available on Lol@ and or distributed in class.

written exam ( multiple-choice questionnaire, open-ended questions ) AND oral exam


Additional information:

Annual assessment = 25% of the total mark

- In-class case study: 15%

- In-class presentation: 10%

Oral exam = 25% of the total mark

- January exam: 25%

Written exam = 50% of the total mark


- January exam: (vocabulary, grammar, listening comprehension, writing, reading,...)

 

In the resit August exam, the entirety of the written exam's material will have to be studied and presented, regardless of the passed/failed parts during the written exam. If one the two parts (written exam/oral exam) is passed in the first session, the related mark will be maintained in the calculation of August's mark (except if the student wishes to re-sit the concerned part).

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course

The course is organized in two sessions of two hours during the first semester, in class (7ECTS).


The students who attend this course will automatically have to take the course English 3 - part 2 during the second semester.
