Learning unit contents
- Organisation:
- 2 hours every week
- basic grammar of the Dutch language
- basic vocabulary of the Dutch language (+/- 1000 most frequent words)
- listening and reading exercises
- lexical and grammatical exercises
- speaking exercises (personal questions, role plays)
- several written works

Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- Being able to use Dutch as an everyday language as well as the basic structures of the Dutch language.
- Focus on the four language skills: listening and reading comprehension, writing expression and, to a lesser extent, oral expression.
- Being able to use the communicative functions relative to the themes of study and everyday life (greeting and introducing oneself, talking about one's schedule, one's hobbies, making appointments, ordering a meal...)
- Level to be reached: A2 of the CEFRL
- The mastery of level A2 of the CEFRL is a condition to reach level B2 at the end, which is the objective in the KLO's.

- showing creativity, autonomy and entrepreneurial spirit
- showing creativity, autonomy
- developing an expertise in a lifelong learning perspective
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
None: the course is mainly aimed at students who have never studied Dutch.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Each course consists of a combination of:
- reading exercises in relation with the themes of the file
- listening exercises in relation with the themes of the file
- vocabulary exercises in relation with the themes of the file
- grammar exercises based on structures coming from the reading exercises and/or the listening exercises
- speaking exercises (conversations, roleplays...) around the themes discussed in the file
Some reading and listening exercises as well as some vocabulary and grammar exercises, such as translation exercises, will have to be prepared at home.

NB(1): All global results inferior to 10/20 are rounded down to the nearest unit for the first as well as for the second session.
NB(2): A student who does not present one part of the exams, obtains 0/20 as a global mark and a student who asks for a 'cote de présence' for one part of the exams, obtains a 'cote de présence' as a global mark.
NB(3): A student who is absent on the day (mentionned in the planning) of a test or a written expression part of the continuous assessment will only be allowed to take it at another moment if a medical certificate is sent to the teacher within the week following the absence.
Organisation of the second session
In June, if a student got a global result inferior to 10/20 for the January exam and wishes to take it again, they will have to take the whole exam again after taking the June exam.
In August, the students who got a global result inferior to 10/20 will have to take:
- the grammar / vocabulary exam of January
- the grammar / vocabulary exam of June
- a listening exercise (common for January and June)
- a reading exercise (comment for January and June)
