Learning unit contents

Microsoft Office Word 365

Introduction to the software and its basic functions: environment and interface, input and typing, page layout, formatting, tabs, tables, etc.

Advanced software features: headers and footers management, styles and table of contents, numbering, bullets, etc.

Microsoft Office Excel 365

Introduction to the software and its basic functions: environment and interface, managing folders, files and spreadsheet, page layout, formatting, basic functions, graphs, etc.

Advanced functions: Fuctions : IF, VLOOKUP ; freeze rows and columns ; filter and sort data in a table.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: teaching is given on PC (Windows). Please ask the teacher in advance if you work on another operating system (Mac OS, Linux).

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the training, the student will master the basic functions of Microsoft Office Word as well as Microsoft Office Excel softwares. He/She will also have to use more advanced functionality to better manage long documents and analyze large amounts of data.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Knowing how to use basic functions of a computer and Windows.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Hybrid teaching = combination of learning activities

  • face-to-face, in real time
  • distance learning with resources made available (course notes, exercises, corrections, etc.) with tasks to be completed asynchronously, i.e. at your own pace but by a set deadline.
Course materials (course notes, exercises, corrections, etc.) are provided to students via the eCampus platform.

A schedule of tasks is proposed to students. Each face-to-face session is designed to cover the planned material, but also to answer any questions you may have.

This course is scheduled for the first term. The course schedule is communicated to students by the teacher and the Department of Public Health Sciences, and is also available in CELCAT.

Evaluation :

  • practical examination on computer (PC) using Microsoft Office Excel and Word
  • practical examination with closed booklet
  • internet use prohibited
  • Platform : eCampus
The weighting of the overall score is: 50% for the Excel part and 50% for the Word part BUT an insufficient score (<9/20) in one of the two parts automatically results in this insufficient score as the overall score.
