Learning unit contents

The course addresses conflict situations and their management from both an internal and external perspective. Specifically, the course will provide an opportunity to define, understand and deal with conflicts. Different methods of conflict management are considered, the main one being negotiation. After having gone through the basics of negotiation, students will be led to consider conflict management from an external point of view, in the role of a person who accompanies a conflict that does not directly concern him/her. In this perspective, we will approach mediation as a method of conflict management that allows us to accompany the parties in negotiation.Particular attention will be paid to the psychological aspects at stake in these conflict situations.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

  • Understand the different ways in which conflict is generally approached and relate to these different attitudes.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Teaching takes place in multiple modalities.
The first part of the course consists of a distance learning course on the issue of conflict, delivered free of charge on the edX platform. This distance learning consists of viewing videos, participating in forums and answering formative exercises.
The second part of the course offers a face-to-face teaching in which theoretical concepts are discussed. At the end of each section of the course, or when a relevant concept can be addressed through practice, exercises and role-playing are proposed to the students, allowing them to crystallize the concepts and transpose them into practice.
If it is not possible to teach face-to-face, the teacher will provide students with videos related to the second part of the course, readings on the subject and online discussion sessions.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
