Learning unit contents

The course aims at an understanding of the fundamental theories of individual consumer and producer behavior. It focuses mainly on partial and general equilibrium theory. We also discuss what happens when market does not work properly with the example of externalities and public goods and services.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

• Develop a scientific approach by the formalization of economic issues.
• Problem solving skills.
• Develop a critical sense with respect to economic theory.
• Be able to make links and understand differences between economic concepts.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Calculus (such as Sydsaeter et al.'s textbook) and Intermediate microeconomics courses (such as the content of Varian's Intermediate Microeconomics textbook).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Theoretical and practical lectures. 

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face lectures and tutorials.
Students are asked to proactively participate during the lectures and tutorials.

A closed book written exam with three parts:
- comment propositions and properties.
- make links between concepts.
