[COURSE IN ENGLISH]
Within a limited number of lessons, this course provides students with a general description of the essential features of the institutional law of Belgium. Topics that will be considered include monarchic and parliamentary principles, the various organs of the Belgian federal State, and the relationships that these organs develop with one another.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The objective of this course is to familiarize non-Belgian students (and, in principle, non-Francophone students) with the key principles of Belgian public law and, in particular, with its peculiarities. These peculiarities should be of specific interest to participants to the course, who at the end of their Erasmus stay will return to their respective countries of origin to pursue their legal studies.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
A visit to the Constitutional Court and the Federal Parliament will be organised during the term. It is not compulsory, but the content of the lectures and meetings held there may form part of the examination material.

Face-to-face delivery (10 x 2 hours) including 1 hour of conference. The course schedule and the course room are available on CelCat. Attendance at lessons is highly recommended.
Recommended or required readings
The course material is essentially the content of the oral course.
A syllabus (which includes the relevant legal texts) is available in the University press shop. This, as well as the oral course, are an integral part of the examination subject (however, the 'legal texts' part can be consulted during the examination). In addition, the teacher will transmit the slides of the PowerPoint presentation as the lessons progress.
One question of the exam will be asked regarding to the conferences.

Additional information:
The evaluation, which will take place in January, consists of an oral exam in English. Students shall bring the collection of legal texts in English (part of the syllabus).
