Learning unit contents

The aim of the course is to provide 1) a historical landscape of the book production in Belgium from Dirk Martens to the end of the 20th century ; 2) to provide, through a collective research, insights into the contemporaru field of book production in Belgium.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

1) Developing an in-depth knowledge of the belgian publishing industry from a historical point of view ; 2) Considering the publishing industry from the two points of view of historical patterns and new forms of publishing practices ; 3) Acquiring a practical knowledge of a moving professional field.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

On the one hand, summary presentations on the major historical trends in publishing in Wallonia and Brussels; on the other hand, data collection and group work under the guidance of the assistant associated with the course. In 2022-2023, the theme and the research axis will concern the youth publishing sector in French-speaking Belgium.
