Learning unit contents

This course aims to develop some contributions of the main theories of learning for instruction. It also discusses some characteristics of adolescents and their possible impact on learning.

The course is made of six themes organized in two parts:



The contributions of educational psychology to teaching ...

* Theme 1 - Process of encoding, storing and retrieving information in memory

* Theme 2 - Types of knowledge and metacognition

* Theme 3 - Preconceptions, (socio) cognitive conflicts and learning by problem solving

* Theme 4 - Programmed learning, functional analysis and mastery learning

* Theme 5 - Neurosciences, neuro-education and neuro-myths

... and the characteristics of adolescents and young adults

* Theme 6 - Characteristics of adolescence and possible impacts on learning
 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

1) Discovering central concepts of classical theories of educational psychology with the aim of understanding and analysing foundations of teaching practices.
2) Discovering and understanding some characteristics of adolescents with the aim of understanding and analysing their impact on learning.

3) Being able to take advantage of the theoretical contributions to analyze one's practice and to design improvements and innovations in teaching.

  Discovery of course content through explanations of central concepts and illustrative examples.
