Contenus de l'unité d'enseignement
This course will give insight to the students on the technology of offshore wind turbine structures. The purpose is to cover all aspects related to the structures (site description, design, fabrication, transport, installation) and how they are interlinked with all other aspects of the wind farm (turbine, blades, cables...).
The table of contents is as follows:
- Types of structures
- Site characterization (soil (metocean)
- Design bottom-fixed (loads on structures, structural design, temporary phases)
- Design floating
- Fabrication (who?, methods)
- Transport & Installation (who?, methods)
- Lifetime
Acquis d'apprentissage (objectifs d'apprentissage) de l'unité d'enseignement
At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- know the various types of offshore wind turbine structures, their pro's and con's and their applicability
- know the techniques to characterize the soil
- know how the interpret metocean data in view of offshore wind turbine structure design
- know the steps to perform a structural detailed design for offshore wind turbines
- perform a simplified offshore wind turbine structure design (both bottom-fixed and floating)
- know the fabrication process for various types of offshore wind turbine structures
- know the transport & installation steps and methods for various types of offshore wind turbine structures
- assess the durations and budget for the structural aspects of an offshore wind farm
Savoirs et compétences prérequis
The course requires basic knowledge on:
- structural mechanics
- materials behaviour
- metocean analysis (wind, waves, current...)
Activités d'apprentissage prévues et méthodes d'enseignement
In every classes, a theoretical part on a specific subject, using slides and extra drawings on the blackboard, will be provided. During this theoretical part, students are welcome to interupt and ask any question.
Some time will be allowed during the classes to progress on the project and ask any question related to the project or any class content. The teacher provides support to the students.
Mode d'enseignement (présentiel, à distance, hybride)
Cours donné exclusivement en présentiel
Informations complémentaires:
Class will take place face-to-face on a weekly basis.
Supports de cours, lectures obligatoires ou recommandées
Informations complémentaires:
Slides for every class will be shared via email.
Modalités d'évaluation et critères
Examen(s) en session
Toutes sessions confondues
- En présentiel
évaluation orale
Travail à rendre - rapport
Autre : Défense orale de projet
Informations complémentaires:
The students have to work on a project linked with offshore wind structures. Based on site specific input (wind, waves, turbine type, soil, water depth...), students have to select the best-suited foundation type, provide an indicative foundation sizing and provide a high-level timeline (Gantt chart) and budget for the foundation scope.
The project will be consolidated in a report to be issued on 1st December. The report will be reviewed and commented by the teacher by 8th December and the project will be defended orally in front of the full class on 15th December.
In addition, an oral exam will be held. List of questions will not be issued upfront. On the day of the exam, the sudents will pick up a question, have 20 minutes for preparation and 20 minutes for discussion.
Repartition of the final grade:
- Project report: 30%
- Project oral defense: 30%
- Oral exam: 40%
