Learning unit contents

This course will focus on the institutional context and institutional life (MR / MRS). In this context, the course will cover a range of topics such as institutional values, welcoming residents, their life stories, activities in the institutions, and the role of factual observations. Particular attention will also be given to ethical issues related to the institutionalization and to the sexuality in institution. The potential role of the psychologist in these various themes and in their evolution in institutional settings will be discussed. 
Outside lecturer may eventually be invited to share their experience in assisting seniors in this specific institutional context.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This course is intended to be as interactive as possible. It will alternate between lecture and exchanges with students. The time devoted to debate and clinical exchange will be (when possible) based on vignettes, videos, etc. The student must be able to question the way certain clinical situations are 'managed'.
The idea is to push students to take a stand in the face of specific situations. This position must be built on theoretical background based on previous classes and courses (not necessarily specific course on aging).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

This course will alternate between lecture, and eventuatly workshops and clinical exchanges based on vignettes or videos.
Occasionally, external lecturers will be invited to bring their expertise on a particular issue (e.g., sexuality of seniors) or specific ethical issues with regards to clinical psychology of the elderly.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face to face learning that is intended to be interactive. Active participation and class attendance are required.

Additional information:

Written exam (open questions) that will combine theoretical knowledge and clinical standpoint.
If the number of students was very high, a part of the exam (or all of it) will take the form of multiple choice questions (MCQ). If this MCQ device was considered, students would be notified at least one month in advance.
