Learning unit contents

Partim 1 : Les systèmes d'énergie électrique

The objective of this course is to familiarize the student with the basic principles of electrical networks, in a context  where they have to adapt to the massive emergence of renewable energy, new loads such as electric vehicles and new organizations as how to sell / trade electricity. (e.g., energy communities).

Partim 2 : Les réseaux de chaleur

This course is intende to introduce the basic concepts of urban district heating networks at the technical level (operational model, heat losses and hydrualic losses evaluation) but also at the economical and environmental levels. through different case studies, the advantages and drawbacks of district heating networks will be exhibited in order to explain the role of these infrastructure in the energy transition. A short introduction of the heat production methods from renewable sources will enable some case studies to be considered.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Partim 1 : Les systèmes d'énergie électrique

With this course, the student will have acquired a good general knowledge of electrical networks in a context of ecological transition. He will also learn how to analyze specific problems that may arise in this field and answer them in an autonomous way. He will also improve his presentation skills.

Partim 2 : Les réseaux de chaleur

At the end of the course, the student will be able to understand the main design parameters of district heating netowoks in order to realize feasibility studies for this type of infrastructure. He will be able to estinate the installation cost, the transport efficiency and the environmental impact.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Partim 1 : Les systèmes d'énergie électrique

The student must have basic knowledge of mathematics and physics to be able to take this course.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The classes will be articulated around plenary lectures, presentations of the students and the discussion of scientific papers that the students will have to read before the class.

At the final oral exam, the students must have a good knowledge of all the material seen during the class and posted on the class webpage.

Assessment methods and criteria

Partim 1 : Les systèmes d'énergie électrique

The evaluation has three components:
1. A score given for the ability to answer questions asked about the scientific articles to be prepared. (30% of the final grade)
2. A note for the presentation(s) (15% of the final grade)
3. A mark for the oral exam (55% of the final mark)
