| The course provides the basis for the detection of ionizing radiation and neutrons and their effects on matter. It is subdivided into the following chapters:
- Radioactive sources - Radiation-matter interaction - Effects on human beings - General properties of detectors - Ionization Chambers - The photomultiplier - The solid-state detectors - Detection of neutrons - Associated electronics |

| Introduction to Modern Physics (PHYS2009-1 or similar course). | |||||

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :

| The theory is taught face-to-face. Practical work are given and allow to review the different detection modes and the operation of the detectors and associated electronics. | |||||

| The course is given in the second semester according to the schedule distributed at the beginning of the academic year by the Department logisticians. | |||||

Assessment methods and criteria :

| The assessment consists of an oral exam on the theory (50%) and a practical examination on laboratory work (50%). | |||||
