Learning unit contents :
The course will be dedicated to the written work of the German essayist Hans Magnus Enzensberger. We will mainly focus on some essays ("Mediocrity and Delusion", "The radical Loser", "Constituents of a Theory of the Media" a.o.) . These works will undergo a double process of recontextualization by the identification of explicit and implicit links between Enzensberger's essays and some of the keyworks of 1/ the Critical Theory (mainly Adorno and Horkheimer); 2/ the French contemporary political and social philosophy as well as the critical sociology (Sartre, Bourdieu, Goldmann a.o.).
 
Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
The students will be able to analyze different essays by Hans Magnus Enzensberger in order to reveal their numerous links and to resituate them in a broader context of the intellectual transfers between France and Germany at their time of publication.

Seminar. After some introductory sessions by the holders of the course, each session will be provided by a different researcher (in the fields of philosophy, anthropology, psychology, literature, media theory).
