The paper should describe the research problem, the corpus, the research method, the aim of the study, and should, of course, contain a bibliography. Students are free to choose the professor with whom they will prepare their bachelor's thesis, independently of the persons teaching the course "Introduction to research in literary studies". |

Learning outcomes of the learning unit :

| Introduction to the writing of the bachelor's thesis
The FBP's objective is to prepare students to produce a master's thesis, by introducing them to scientific investigation and writing. More specifically, the FBP tests the following skills: reading and understanding an important contribution in a specific field; situating this contribution in its context; developing a personal point of view, separate from that of the author's, following an original line of enquiry. The FBP is produced based on a scientific text, chosen from a list provided at the beginning of the 2nd term. Startinf from their chosen text, students identify a potential extension of the author's analysis and develop a reasoned research plan backed by at least two other approved references on the topic. The FBP should follow the typographical standards of scientific writing in the field studied, and be no longer than 10,000 characters, spaces included. A bibliography is provided as an appendix to the project (this does not count toward the 10,000 character limit). The choice of a FBP (branch of study and specific topic) in no way determines future of the students' studies (master's thesis, adviser, speciality or optional courses). |

Luciano Curreri : Tuesday from 11 am to 12 (Salle Lumière) Curreri & Decoster : Thursday from 8 am to 9 am The FBP's schedule is as follows: - early February: students are provided a list of articles to choose from; - before the Easter holiday: students choose a topic and an adviser, keeping in mind that each adviser cannot be in charge of more that 5 students each year. - May 9, 2016 (for the first-session exam): students give the final draft of their FBP to their adviser (in both printed and electronic form); - August 22, 2016 (for the second-session exam): students give the final draft of their FBP to their adviser (in both printed and electronic form) |
