Learning unit contents :
CERL level of the course: A1Study of basic grammar and vocabulary, based on the 4 skills: reading and listening comprehension, writing and speaking exercises.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
Students will focus on basic grammar and vocabulary and improve their 4 skills through various exercises and activities.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
The course is meant for students who have no, or juste a little, knowledge of the Dutch language. A basic knowledge of the oral and written language is an asset.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Each lesson is based on a listening comprehension exercise in an everyday situation (at the restaurant, in the supermarket, etc.). Comprehension exercises, grammar and vocabulary drills and written or oral assignments will complete each lesson.The class will be based on lessons 7 to 15 of the coursebook Totaal, by Anneke van den Broek.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
2h every week. Homework and preparations are planned throughout the year. Students should attend classes and participate actively. Possibility to follow online @lter courses.

Assessment methods and criteria :
1) Students will have to take one vocabulary test. They will have to translate isolated words from French to Dutch. If they fail during the year (less than 10/20), they have to retake this test at the written exam. The test represents 1/4 of the written exam.
Oral and written exam at the end of the year.
2) The written exam will be composed of grammar and vocabulary exercises, as well as a writing exercise. (75% of the final note)
3) The oral exam will consist in a dialog between two students about topics dealt with during the classes.
