| The course is divided into two main parts. It will focus on the one hand on written communication in English with a revision of the English grammar, and on the other hand on oral communication. | ||||||||

Learning outcomes of the learning unit :

| In agreement with the ILOs, the course aims at developing and strengthening the four language skills (oral and written expression, listening and reading comprehension). The objective is to help the students who do not have a sufficient level of English (or who haven't studied English for some time), to reach the B2 level (the required level to attend the course English part 2). | ||||||||

Prerequisite knowledge and skills :

| Students must have the B1 level at least. | ||||||||

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :

| The course particularly insists on practising English.
The oral communication course will propose listening and speaking activities (discussions, role plays and case studies). Vocabulary activities will also be done. In the written communication course, the students will have to review the main grammar items and to hand in several assignments, which will allow them to practice and to assess their level. |

| The course is taught face-to-face, with 4h a week (2x2h).
Students are required to prepare some exercises at home. |

| Oral communication course: 50% of the total mark
- in-class assessment (two case studies): 5% - January exam: case study and listening comprehension: 45% Written communication course: 50% of the total mark - in-class assessment (two essays): 5% - January exam: an essay based on one of the 'business' themes seen in class + grammar exercises + reading comprehension: 45% |

| The course is organised in two sessions of two hours during the first semester.
The students who attend this course will have to take the course English 3 - part 2 during the second (instead of the first) semester. |
