Learning unit contents :
In this course, the candidates will
  • Learn about enterprise information and recent related technological innovations
  • Understand how information systems and associated technological innovations can be exploited to manage organizations
  • Understand the impact of information systems and technologies on the organization, workforce and society at large.
Since this couse is given to business executive (evening lectures), it will involve extensive use of real-life case-studies to be provided by the professor.
Lecture notes, with a more theoretical orientation, will also be provided in the interest of those candidates who want to acquire more formal, scholarly knowledge.
Typical topics to be covered include:
Enterprise information systems/Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
Cloud computing: architecture (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), implications for organizations, cloud vs. on-premise
RFID: types of tags, example usages, benefits and limitations
eHealth: health information systems, EHR, EMR
IoT: definitions of key concepts, applications, implications for industry
Smart cities and e-government
Social Media and applications: based on the Special Issue of the Information Systems Research journal in 2013.
Artificial Intelligence and Automation: key definitions (AI, machine learning, automation), impact on industry and workforce, opportunities for start-ups, impact on society
Note: some of the aforementioned topics may not be covered due to time constraints
Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
Appreciate the need the fundamental roles of information systems in organizational management
Be informed of revent innovations, technological breakthroughs in information systems and their potential application in industry
Establish a strategy by incorporating information systems and novel technologies, which can be directly applied to their (the candidate students') industry 
Take part or lead information systems implementation projects within their company
Communicate effectively to various stakehoders (software vendors, co-workers, developers) 
Exploit information systems and other technologies to monitor and improve quality and performance.
