| From small smartphones to gigantic datafarms, databases are everywhere. But when it comes to usability, size doesn't matter as much as conceptual, management and accessibility decisions. Choosing the right DataBase Management System (DBMS) is then critical.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit :

| At the end of the course, the student will be able to pin the DBMS on the Information System map. By creating, querying, cross-referring, importing and exporting simple data and small databases, he/she will be able to generalize it to bigger and real databases. But not without paying attention to issues coming with incomplete analysis, multi-users access, distibuted systems or incompatibilities, and trying to avoid them. | |||||

| 2 hours lecture followed by 1 hour practicals.
Some of the exercises will be graded, and are worth 50% of the total grade. |
