Learning unit contents :

Epidemiology is the science that studies the distribution of diseases and health indicators in populations and the influences that determine this distribution. Risk analysis is a way to organize the information available on a potential event , translate them into probabilities by taking into account assumptions, variability and uncertainty, and to logically deduce decisions. The specificity is mainly, for the first, the population aspect and for the second, the interdisciplinary aspect. Their importance for health professionals is great to better prevent diseases but also manage them better.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit :

Understand the basics and advanced methods in epidemiology and risk analysis
Know the basics of public health systems, human and animal health
Acquire basic reasoning to manage a risk of infection at farms/facilitities/care units, including emerging diseases.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills :

Have a first experience in a health care system whatever the origin (public health, animal health, plant health).
