Learning unit contents :

| An introduction to the history and current situation of some of the former British colonies. After a general introduction to the notion of postcolonialism, the course will be devoted to a number of countries/areas that have undergone different types of colonization, decolonization and neo-colonization . In addition to political issues, cultural aspects (including literary ones) will also be studied. | ||

Learning outcomes of the learning unit :

| By the end of this course students will be able to engage in a critical discussion of issues related to former British colonies, to identify mechanisms of subordination and processes of resistance and emancipation, and to distinguish between various cultures in our globalized world. | ||

| The course is taught in seminar format. | ||

| Face-to-face. First term, Monday, 9.00-11.00. The first session will be held on 26 September 2016. | ||

| The final grade will be based on a written examination (including a multiple choice questionnaire and an open-ended question) followed by an oral examination on the issues studied during the course. | ||
