Learning unit contents :
The course concerns the design of roads and other similar infrastructures. It contains the following facets:
  • A presentation of the theory, the practical and abstract tools for the design and the dimansionnement of the roads
  • Some invited lectures on the interactions with the town planning, the planning of transport etc.
  • A visit of the BRRC, the Belgian Road Researches Center
  • A group work of design of a road infrastructure (for example a traffic circle)

basics of geotechnics and hydraulics
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
a mix of face-to-face courses, personnal readings, invited lectures.
A group work for designing a road work.

Recommended or required readings :
lecture notes (goetchnics course) will be on MyULg and comprises a chapter on road engineering.
The CRR website and its journal are a good complement.
Assessment methods and criteria :
based on report and other productions from the students.
