| Structures Analysis I | ||||||||
Duration :
| 35h Th, 30h Pr | ||||||||
Number of credits :

Lecturer :
| Jean-Marc Franssen | ||||||||
Language(s) of instruction :
| French language | ||||||||
Organisation and examination :
| Teaching in the first semester, review in January | ||||||||
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite :
| Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program | ||||||||
Learning unit contents :
| Elastic methods of structural analysis : Introduction - Basic theorems - Flexibility method (classical) - Stiffness method (classical, simplified, use of software) - Moment distribution method - Influence lines Plastic global analysis (basic theorems, static and kinematic methods) Worked examples. | ||||||||
Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
| This course is particularly dedicated to the analysis of statically undeterminate structures.
Deliver the background of the methods of global analysis and train to the determination of internal forces and displacements in a given structure subjected to a given loading. |
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
| Course on mechnics of materials
FUNDAMENTAL: The student must absolutely master determination of effects of actions in statically determined structures |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
| A substantial part of the lectures is devoted to exercises to be solved by the students or worked out by the assistant. | ||||||||
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
| Lectures and exercises are organised alternately. Some marked exercices are organised during the courses, with advance notice to the students. | ||||||||
Recommended or required readings :
| Lecture notes will be distributed in electronic format during the year, chapter by chapter, via the service "MyULg" | ||||||||
Assessment methods and criteria :
| Separate oral (theory) and written (exercises) examinations.
30% for the marked tests made during the year. 30% for the written examination 40% for the oral examination. It is a prerequesit to tthis course to be able to determine quickly the effects of action in a statically determinated structure. Failing to do so leads to a "fail" for the course. |
Work placement(s) :
Organizational remarks :
| In 2016-2017, the course will be during the first quadrimester, on Monday from 13:30 to 17:30 | ||||||||
