Learning unit contents :
1) Equipement and on-board electricity: On-board electricity: different types of distribution networks, electrical circuit protection, cables. Energy production: calculation of installed power, general characteristics of alternators, engines, dynamos, creating parallel connections. Energy users: classes of user, equipment installed below bridge, equipment installed on the bridge. Electric and turbo-electric diesel propellors. Classification regulations. 2) Marine diesel engines: Operating parameters and performance. Description of different types of engines. Engine power (ISO 3046). Turbocharging. Injection and combustion. Engines powered by heavy fuel. Emissions and reduction of pollutants.
