Learning unit contents :

| The course concern the organization of natural biomaterials, i.e. materials produced by living organisms. This organization is related to the physical/mecanical characteristics and their function in the living organisms. Owing that most of them are hierarchical biocomposites, their organization is regarded at the different levels : molecular, compositional, nanométric, micrometric, macroscopic and three-dimensional. At each level, the arrangement is responsible of a part of the properties.
The considered biomaterials are : arthropod exosqueletons, molluscan shells, sea urchin tests, bones, teeth, keratins,...) |

Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
| Apprehend the characteristics, the composition and the strictural organiszation of biological matérials from a biological point of view (function in the organism, secretion by cells,...) and from a material science point of view. | |||||
