Philippe Ngendakumana
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Organisation and examination :
All year long, with partial in January
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite :
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents :
Each academic year, different group projects in the field of energy are proposed and are carried out in groups of maximum 3 students.
For the academic year 2016-2017, 5 topics are proposed :
- Study and realization of a demonstrator for an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC);
- Study and realization of a demonstrator for a "Dish-Stirling" engine;
- Study and realization of a demonstrator for a portable reffrigeration cycle;
- Sudy and realization of a demonstrator for a thermoelectric generator;
- Performance of a demonstrator for an energy  storage plant by compressed air

Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
The objectives of the integrated project in energetics are :
- Development of the ability to manage and to carry out a project in the energetics field;
- Ability to establish synergy between theoretical and practical aspects;
- Applied sciences approach (report structure, criticism,   search for information in the scientific literature);
- Analysis and criticism of experimental measurements;
- Management of a group project (planning, collaboration, ...);
- Application of previous courses and development  of the knowledge in energetic systems;
- To raise up its own creativity by means of learning by group project;
- The ability to give an oral presentation and to present a report on a scientific topic.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
- Applied thermodynamics and introduction to thermal systems;
- Heat transfer;
- Incompressible fluids machines;
- Heat exchangers;
- Heat and cold production equipments;
- Measurements of themofluid quantities;
- Control of linear systems.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
If needed, oral presentations given by the academic and scientific staff and discussion with the same staff are organised all along the duration of the group project.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Recommended or required readings :
Assessment methods and criteria :
- Preliminary presentation (problem description, methodology, envisaged solution, work already performed and planning for the future work) : 20%;
- Final presentation : 20%;
- Personal investment in the project : 20%;
- Final report : 40%.
The mark for personal investment will be given at the end of the academic year by the leaders of the projects and will be based on personal involvement in the group. This mark may vary from one participant to another.

Work placement(s) :
Organizational remarks :
According to the timetable, the academic and scientific staff will be ready to answer to questions on monday pm (1st semester) and monday and friday pm (2nd semester).
